Haitian Relief effort
An earthquake in Haiti devastated the Country. They have no resources to rely on, so the only way for these people and all of the relief workers there to help is through donations. Rogers has donated $250,000…the Canadian government has offered to match donations from Canadians up to 50 million dollars, and you can be part of the effort. If you are a Rogers Wireless or Fido customer, you can send the text message “HELP” to 1-2-9-1 and you will have donated $5. They need so much there right now. 100% of the money will be given to the organizations who are distributing help to Haiti.
The Canadian Red Cross is currently accepting donations for the ongoing Haitian Relief effort. Donations can be made online at www.redcross.ca or through the toll free number 1-800-418-1111. Local donations can also be given at the Red Cross, North Bay Branch located on 1275 Main Street .Please note that the Red Cross is not engaging in door to door solicitation for Haiti at this time.
Be part of the relief aid around the world…and help make a difference.
3rd Annual Hike for Hospice
Sunday, May 2, 2010
This spring, thousands of people from across Canada will come together to kick off Hospice Palliative Care Week, and raise awareness and money in support of their local, community hospice organizations.
100% of all the funds raised will remain in the community to provide hospice palliative care and support for individuals living with a life-threatening illness, and their loved ones.
Near North Palliative Care Network (Nipissing/Parry Sound) is a volunteer organization, working in collaboration with other agencies offering End-of-Life care. Our mission is to enhance the comfort, dignity and quality of life of individuals with a terminal illness, and to offer bereavement support throughout the community.
Why should you support Near North Palliative Care (N/PS) and the Hike for Hospice?
- Your fundraising dollars will be used locally and will go towards providing social and emotional care to the terminally ill and ongoing bereavement support after the death of a loved one.
- To recognize the dedicated volunteers and staff who work with the residents and families of the Hospice;
- To honour the memory of loved ones who have died;
- To give tribute to loved ones who are living with a terminal illness;
- 80% of Canadians say they want quality hospice care at the end of life, and less than 15% have access to it;
- Hospice palliative care is currently under funded and under recognized.
Support Near North Palliative Care Network (N/PS) by forming a team and hiking with your family, friends and coworkers or sponsoring someone doing the Hike! Walk in memory of a loved one.
Leashed pets are encouraged and welcome
